This is less of a recipe and more of a meal idea for anyone who wants a change to their toast routine. I have found that I rarely have a day that does not start with toast. It’s a breakfast staple for me. As such, I have experimented with different toast varieties given the ingredients available to me and the time I have in the morning. One of the reasons I love toast is that it’s an elegant, easy breakfast made with simple ingredients in limited time frames. That is exactly what I need in the morning.
The quark in this recipe is a European-style soft cheese (similar to cream cheese), so it can easily be substituted for any other mild, cheesy spread of your choice. Feel free to use any jam as well. I cycle between blackberry and raspberry jams because they offer a sharp tart flavor that offsets the creaminess of the quark. With a little salt, the combination is fantastic.
Ingredients
- 2 slices of bread (I used whole wheat bread)
- 1-2 Tbsp. quark
- 2 pinches salt (I used Malden flaky salt)
- 1-2 tsp. jam or preserves
- ½ avocado, sliced
- Cilantro, chopped (garnish)
Method
- Toast the bread slices
- Layer quark, flaky salt, and jam onto the toast
- Top with avocado and cilantro
- Serve and enjoy
