Salsa is one of the most popular condiments in the United States, yet most people are still buying theirs from the grocery store! To stop this madness, I have provided this recipe for you. Feel free to make measurement adjustments as needed.
Ingredients
- 3 Tbsp. onion, minced
- 1 Tbsp. garlic, minced
- 1 Tbsp. cilantro, chopped
- Juice from ½ lime
- 2-4 small tomatoes, whole
- 1-2 tsp. honey
- Salt and pepper to taste
Method
- Preheat oven to 400°F
- Slice a small incision on top of all tomatoes
- Place tomatoes on a parchment paper-lined baking sheet
- Bake tomatoes until skin is blistered or blackened (10-15 minutes)
- This step can also be accomplished by heating the tomatoes over an open flame; I do not have the means to do this in my kitchen
- Once tomatoes are blackened, remove from heat and let rest for 3-5 minutes
- Remove seeds (if desired) and chop tomatoes
- Combine all ingredients in a mortar to grind together
- Serve and enjoy
