I tried making smoothies this past fall and winter, and I hated the taste. I thought I was done with smoothies forever. However, after spending a day outside in the heat and dryness this summer, a smoothie was the only thing I craved after. This experience taught me to listen to the signals of the environment and the season because your cravings will most likely align with augmenting the harshness you experience in your day. Hot days require cold refreshments. Cold days require warm comforts. Easy days allow for long, complicated recipes. Hard days require simple preparations. This awareness of environment will simplify cooking choices and increase meal satisfaction at the end of the day, in my opinion. This is also a friendly endorsement of ice cream in the summer. Don’t wait until it gets cold and it’s too late!
