Broken Silence

I have come to a halt in my walk with the church, and I cannot go any further without revealing myself completely.  I have prayed and meditated about this for a long while, and I cannot bear the silence any longer.  I would rather be known and rejected than accepted for my façade.

I see many problems the church faces in their lives, from physical ailments like acne or snoring to debilitating diseases like heart disease or diabetes.  I see the suffering these problems bring and the incredible sorrow that follows.  I know I can help.  I know my message can at the least alleviate and at the most cure these ailments.

My message is a vegan diet.

This message is incredibly simple yet unbelievably complex.  Many would be outraged by my audacity to claim that the suffering they have endured for weeks, months, years, or even a lifetime was unnecessary and is easy to deal with.  I understand this, and yet, I am here with my message nonetheless.

I cannot in good conscience keep holding my tongue for the sake of people’s feelings while suffering and death endures.

Animal agriculture is a gross injustice that must be terminated as soon as possible, and as a body of followers of Jesus Christ, the church must be in support of this.  The systematic torture, murder, and exploitation of animals and their byproducts was never what God intended to have included in his kingdom of heaven, and I would be willing to argue this with scripture.  This is what I will venture into with the next blog posts I will be writing.

In the meantime, I hope that the church will take the time to educate themselves on this issue to maybe come to a similar understanding of what animal agriculture really is.  I doubt most of the church understands exactly what they are supporting when they choose what to eat every day three times a day.  Here are the resources I recommend:

  • Forks Over Knives, documentary
  • Cowspiracy, documentary
  • What the Health, documentary
  • Earthlings, documentary
  • The China Study by Dr. T. Colin Campbell, book
  • Starch Solution by Dr. John McDougall, book
  • How Not to Die by Dr. Michael Greger, book

I have plenty more, but those are good places to start.  Please let me know your opinions on this.  I would sincerely like to know if I am wrong (I don’t think I am, but I may be).

“He will judge between the nations and will settle disputes for many peoples.
They will beat their swords into plowshares
and their spears into pruning hooks.
Nation will not take up sword against nation,
nor will they train for war anymore.”
-Isaiah 2:4

  1. […] This gives us the opportunity to examine the aspects of community and sift through how we live our lives to glorify God.  This earth has not been forsaken by God, nor will it be.  The entire Bible reveals how God’s intention is to reunite heaven and earth and restore his creation.  What we do on this earth and how we take care of it matters.  This should inform how we bring the kingdom of heaven to earth.  This is where environmental protection and animal consideration come into play, which is where I also bring in veganism.  The vegan diet by far is the most sustainable diet on the planet with regard to resource preservation, economic stability, health promotion, and environmental recovery.  To research these aspects of veganism, I recommend looking through my recommendations on a previous post, found here.
