Chocolate Tahini Smoothie Bowl

Y’all, chocolate and peanut butter is so last season.  It’s all about the tahini now (just kidding pb+c forever).  In all seriousness, this recipe is quite good for chocolate lovers that want a twist on their favorite dessert.  Tahini, or crushed sesame seeds, offers a completely different flavor and nutrient profile to peanut butter, so switching it up every now and then is really beneficial to your health too!  If you’re not a fan of tahini, go with your favorite nut butter, but I was surprised by how much I enjoyed this flavor combo.

Ingredients

  • 3-4 frozen bananas
  • ¼ cup cacao powder
  • ¼ – ½ cup water
  • 1-2 Tbsp. tahini
  • 1-2 tsp. sesame seeds for garnish
  • 1 fresh banana, sliced
  • 1-2 tsp. dark chocolate flakes (optional)
  • ¼ cup rolled oats or rye/spelt/wheat flakes (optional)

Method

  1. Place the frozen bananas, cacao powder, and water into a blender
  2. Blend until creamy (help the blender out by thawing the frozen fruit for about 15 minutes before blending)
  3. Scoop smoothie into a bowl
  4. Swirl in tahini with a spoon
  5. Top with sesame seeds, banana, chocolate, and rolled grain flakes
  6. Enjoy!
